A slender aluminium hull drawn by Espen Øino, Smeralda is a 77-metre motor yacht built in Western Australia. She brings together speed, efficiency and a long cruising range.
History
Smeralda was launched on 17 March 2012 at the Australian Marine Complex, south of Perth. At the time, the yard was known as Hanseatic Marine. She was the third yacht in a series of long, narrow designs by Espen Øino. She followed two 73.5-metre hulls and refined their approach. Fitting out and commissioning were completed over the following months. She was delivered in 2012. In 2013, she won the Asia Pacific Yacht (over 40m) category at the International Yacht & Aviation Awards.
Design
Her lines rest on a long, narrow hull conceived for fuel efficiency. Both hull and superstructure are built entirely in aluminium. The semi-displacement hull form favours seakeeping as well as speed. Twin MTU 16V 4000 M90 diesel engines provide propulsion. At 18 knots, she can cover 4,500 nautical miles. A golden hull and white superstructure accentuate her slim profile. She was built to Lloyd's Register rules and is MCA compliant.
On Board
It opens onto a large private terrace facing aft. Nine guest cabins complete the accommodation, three of them VIP. The interiors by Vain Interiors make generous use of walnut panelling. The internal beach club brings together a gym, a massage room, an eight-person spa and a sauna. On deck, a winter garden enclosed by sliding glass doors, a pool and a helipad complete the picture.
