This is Leviathan
Launched by Oceanco in 2025, Leviathan is a 111-metre motor yacht conceived as a maritime exploration platform, combining understated comfort with operational purpose.
History
Built at the Dutch shipyard Oceanco under the project name Y722, Leviathan had her keel laid in mid-2021 before being launched on 10 August 2025 at Alblasserdam. The yacht then undertook sea trials in the North Sea in October, ahead of her delivery on 12 November 2025. At 111 metres, she became the largest vessel ever launched by Oceanco by gross tonnage, ranking behind the 127-metre Koru and the 117-metre Infinity within the yard's fleet by length. The project brought together Oceanco's in-house team with Lateral Naval Architects for naval architecture and Mark Berryman Design for the interiors.
Design
The exterior design, developed by Oceanco's in-house studio, favours clean lines and a purposeful silhouette over overt display. Her hull, developed by Lateral Naval Architects together with Oceanco and refined through model testing with MARIN, is based on the latest evolution of the DE series, a hull form originally developed in 2010 for large yachts cruising at moderate speeds with pod drives. A seawater ballast system allows optimal loading conditions to be maintained. The project's guiding philosophy placed as much emphasis on crew wellbeing and functionality as on guest comfort, with particular attention paid to onboard living spaces and to the ease of maintaining the chosen materials.
Technical features
Leviathan runs on a diesel-electric system paired with two ABB DO980P azipods, each fitted with a custom five-blade propeller developed through cavitation testing to reduce pressure pulses and vibration. The steel foundations supporting these pods were reinforced to prevent vibration from transferring into the hull. A stabilisation system combining Quantum MagLift and XT fins completes the setup, ensuring notably quiet and comfortable operation even at full speed. The yacht has a gross tonnage of 4,970 GT and reaches a top speed of around 17.5 knots.
Interiors
The interiors, entrusted to British studio Mark Berryman Design, were developed in close coordination with the yacht's operational team. Rather than traditional teak decking and varnished wood handrails, Leviathan features composite capping rails, honed stone surfaces and natural wool carpets, alongside full-height glazed bulkheads. This approach reflects a clear intent: to reduce low-value maintenance tasks while preserving a refined, understated atmosphere. The vessel also incorporates spaces designed to support marine research and exploration activities, in keeping with her role as a versatile platform.
Recently at sea
At 110 metres, she ranks #25 among the 2,395 yachts tracked by Yacht Tracker. She has not put to sea in the past 30 days. Yacht Tracker has been following her position since October 18, 2026.
