This is Opera
Ranking among the ten largest yachts in the world, the 146-metre Opera is a Lürssen giant born from the rebirth of a project struck by fate.
History
Opera's story begins with tragedy. In September 2018, a major fire ravaged a floating dock at Lürssen's Bremen facility, destroying a 146-metre project then known as Sassi. Several specialist outlets report that Opera is believed to be the rebuild of that very project, her hull having been reconstructed at Hamburg before being transported to Bremen for final outfitting. The vessel was launched on 19 September 2022 from Lürssen's Bremen outfitting facilities, revealing for the first time her towering profile and twin helipads. She was delivered in early 2023, after which she sailed to Portsmouth on her maiden voyage before heading toward the Mediterranean or the Middle East.
Design
With an overall length of 146.35 metres and a beam of roughly 20 to 22 metres, Opera ranks among the world's ten largest privately owned yachts and stands as the sixth-largest vessel ever built by Lürssen. Naval architecture was developed in-house by the German yard, while the exterior lines were penned by British designer Terence Disdale, who also created the interior design. The hull is built in steel with an aluminium superstructure and teak decks. Her interior volume exceeds 12,500 gross tons, reflecting the sheer scale of accommodation spread across six decks.
On Board
Opera can accommodate up to 36 guests across 18 staterooms, cared for by a crew of up to 50. Images released at the time of her delivery revealed two swimming pools, one on the sun deck and another on the main aft deck, alongside a generous beach club and two helicopter landing pads, one on the foredeck and one on the upper deck. While much of the interior remained under wraps, the floor-to-ceiling glazing conceived by Terence Disdale gives the yacht a light-filled, open profile. Powered by six Wärtsilä engines in a diesel-electric configuration, she reaches a top speed of 22 knots with a cruising speed of around 18 knots.
Recently at sea
At 146 metres, she ranks #5 among the 2,395 yachts tracked by Yacht Tracker. She has not put to sea in the past 30 days. Yacht Tracker has been following her position since October 18, 2026.
