Octopus is a legendary 126-metre motor yacht with a beam of 21 metres. Flying the flag of the Cayman Islands, this hybrid explorer vessel remains one of the most iconic superyachts in the world.
History
Built under hull number 13622 in Germany, the vessel was delivered in 2003. Shipbuilder Lürssen executed her construction in Bremen in partnership with the HDW shipyard in Kiel. Engineered for long-range oceanic transits, she has participated in various scientific research missions and deep-sea exploration projects. Her launch represented a major milestone in the evolution of luxury explorer vessels.
Design
Naval architecture was engineered in-house by the technical teams at Lürssen. Her distinctive exterior profile was created by Espen Øino Naval Architects. Interior space planning and decorative styling were authored by designer Jonathan Quinn Barnett. Her structure pairs an ice-class steel hull with a lightweight aluminium superstructure.
On board
The layout spans eight decks dedicated to long-distance oceanic voyages. Onboard facilities include an internal wet dock housing a research submarine and a 19-metre main tender. Dual helipads provide flight capabilities along with an integrated hangar for two helicopters. Her diesel-electric propulsion system utilizes eight MTU engines to deliver an endurance range of 12,500 nautical miles.
