This is Dragonfly
Built by the German shipyard Lürssen, Dragonfly ranks among the world's largest motor yachts, distinguished by her angular, navy-inspired silhouette.
History
Construction of this large motor yacht began at Lürssen's facilities in the late 2010s, under a project name that remained confidential for years. The hull emerged from the assembly shed in May 2022 before the yacht was launched in December 2023. Sea trials took place in September 2024 in the North Sea, off Brunsbüttel, confirming her performance. Dragonfly left the Lemwerder shipyard for good in December 2024, before heading to Spain for final preparations. In 2025 the yacht received an award in the Superyacht Above 80m category at the Yacht Style Awards.
Design
Her exterior lines were penned by Argentine designer German Frers, known for his work on numerous large yachts. Dragonfly features an elongated bow, angular contours and a look reminiscent of naval vessels, a style that has become one of Lürssen's signatures. Her steel hull and aluminium superstructure span five decks, giving a gross tonnage of 9,408 GT. The deck is finished in teak, while her draught is close to six metres.
Interiors
The interior design was entrusted to the Italian studio Nauta Design, which spent several years developing a sequence of distinct atmospheres throughout the yacht. Nauta's president, Mario Pedol, described the project as an effort to create striking outward perspectives combined with understated elegance. The aim was a seamless dialogue between interior volumes and views of the sea, achieved through restrained refinement.
Engineering
Dragonfly relies on a diesel-electric hybrid propulsion concept developed in-house by Lürssen's engineers. Two MAN diesel engines drive controllable-pitch propellers through gearboxes fitted with PTI/PTO units, allowing either electric propulsion or power generation. This configuration gives the yacht a top speed of 24 knots. At the stern, a bespoke double-folding platform system converts into an expansive beach club with direct access to the sea.
Recently at sea
At 142 metres, she ranks #7 among the 2,394 yachts tracked by Yacht Tracker.
