As Italy's oldest active state shipyard, Castellammare di Stabia represents a historic center of naval architecture. The yard is globally renowned for its heavy steel fabrication and traditional rigging mastery.

History

The shipyard was founded in 1783 under the reign of the House of Bourbon in the Bay of Naples. It rapidly established itself as a principal naval manufacturing hub for large wooden and metal vessels. Over the centuries, the facility continuously modernized its slipways, eventually integrating into Fincantieri's industrial group. During the 1930s, naval engineer Francesco Rotundi designed landmark tall ships at the Neapolitan facility. The yard continues its industrial operations, building sophisticated ocean-going platforms and state vessels. Its heritage remains deeply intertwined with Italian maritime history.

Craftsmanship

Castellammare di Stabia craftsmanship combines heavy naval engineering with specialized maritime artistry. In-house engineers master large-scale steel hull fabrication designed for rigorous transoceanic conditions. The facility maintains a long tradition of expertise in metal shaping, complex masting, and traditional rigging assembly. Fine interior joinery workshops apply time-honored techniques using premium woods for interior spaces. Every project complies with strict classification standards established by societies such as RINA. This engineering discipline ensures extraordinary longevity for vessels crafted on its slipways.
