Han de Vries established the first workshop in 1906 in the town of Aalsmeer. The initial business focused on building small wooden craft for local waters. His sons Henk and Johan later founded the De Vlijt yard to expand naval construction. In 1949, the company played a key role in establishing the Feadship alliance. The shipyard received its Royal designation in 2006 upon celebrating its centenary. The company now operates state-of-the-art facilities in Aalsmeer and Makkum.
